The sudden death of Prateek Yadav, the 38-year-old son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has shocked political circles across Uttar Pradesh.
The provisional postmortem report prepared at the King George’s Medical University earlier in the day cited the cause of death as “cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism”, a condition in which a large blood clot blocks arteries in the lungs, leading to sudden heart and lung failure.

According to the family, Prateek Yadav had been staying at home for the last three to four days. In the first week of May, he underwent surgery on his left leg, following which he faced difficulty walking and experienced significant swelling in the leg.
Around April 30, he was admitted to a hospital, where he remained under treatment for three days before being discharged after his condition improved.
Here’s a timeline of what transpired hours before Yadav passed away.
SUDDEN DECLINE IN HEALTH
Sources said his health began deteriorating on May 12, following which his wife, Aparna Yadav, who was in Assam attending the swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma, was informed about his condition and remained in constant touch over the phone.
At around 6 pm, the family’s astrologer called to enquire about Yadav’s condition. Though he could not visit personally, he spoke to the household staff over the phone.
The staff informed him that Prateek Yadav was resting in his room, and the same information was conveyed to Aparna Yadav.
HEALTH CONDITION WORSENS
At around 11:30 pm, Prateek Yadav’s condition reportedly worsened significantly. He was then taken to Civil Hospital with the help of the driver and domestic staff.
Sources said he received treatment there for nearly an hour. However, doctors at the hospital later denied this account.
At around 1 am, his wife tried calling Yadav but was unable to speak to him. When she contacted the staff, she was informed that he had gone to sleep.
FOUND UNCONSCIOUS
At around 5 am, a domestic worker found Yadav unconscious in his room, leaning on his elbow. According to the worker, Yadav had asked for water during the night, which was given to him.
Seeing his condition, the staff immediately informed Civil Hospital.
DECLARED DEAD
An Emergency Medical Officer was sent to the residence, where the doctor reportedly found no bodily response and no heart activity.
Yadav was then rushed to the hospital. During this time, his brother-in-law, Aman Bisht, also reached the spot.
According to Dr DC Pandey of the Civil Hospital, Yadav was brought to the hospital at around 6 am, but he had already died by then.
DEATH SHOCKS UTTAR PRADESH
Yadav’s death at a relatively young age left many shocked, especially as he was widely regarded as health conscious. Mourners started gathering outside the family’s Vikramaditya Marg residence soon after news of his death spread.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was among those who expressed their shock at the death. “He was a very good young man who wanted to achieve something through his own hard work. Sadly, he is no longer among us,” he said.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called his death “extremely heartbreaking”, while state Congress chief Ajay Rai expressed his grief at the “sudden demise”.
Yadav’s last rites will be performed at Bhaisakund at 11.30 am on Thursday, the family said. His family will leave with his mortal remains at 11 am, ahead of the cremation ceremony.
