When most people sleep through their alarms, an embarrassing text to the boss and a foggy start to work is typically the result.

But what happens when both hosts of a popular breakfast radio show — that runs 6am to 9am — fail to show up on the same day?

Mix 94.5 is set to find out on Friday when its hosts undertake one their of most unpredictable stunts yet: “Pete & Kymba’s Body Clock Challenge”.

The bubbly pair are turning off their morning alarms and hoping years of early rising will jolt them into consciousness at an appropriate hour.

In reality, their guess as to what happens next is as good as their listeners’.

“We have no idea what will happen tomorrow! Even after years of breakfast radio we are not certain we can trust our body clocks,” the pair told PerthNow.

“After many predictions, we have landed on the idea that we will probably get no sleep and both turn up WAY too early, but the listeners have no faith in Pete showing up at all.”

The ambitious co-hosts are known for their boundary-pushing antics, this year challenging sports stars to toe wrestling, and taking dress up to the extreme.

Their forthcoming stunt began as a conversation about difficulty waking up following two weeks of holidays, and has evolved into a study of the human condition.

Pete & Kymba anticipate Friday to be another memorable day at work, but have contingencies in place should biology fail both of them.

“This whole experience has been a lot of fun, but trying to create a show plan for the morning without knowing who will be hosting is bizarre!” they added.

“We have created back up plans for a no-show, and we are both prepared to fly solo if we have to!”

In preparation for Friday’s show, the radio co-hosts dressed in their pyjamas on Thursday morning, and even placed a bed in the studio on the chance they arrive to work well before their typical call time.

Last week, Pete — a father of three — revealed to PerthNow his standard alarm setting and how he’s adjusted to the lifestyle of a breakfast radio host of the years.

“Most mornings I’m up by sort of 3:45am, and then I’m out of here by 4:30am. And then we get in by 5am, we catch up on what we should be doing through the show, make the changes that we have to, bring in some of the latest news that has popped up overnight, and then 6am we’re on the air and we’re away,” he said.

“I used to be a lot better in terms of my morning ritual before going on air — I used to get up at 3am and I would go to the gym.

“And then once the kids sort of came along, and getting them to bed at night became steadily more difficult, that sort of dipped away.”

Tune into Mix 94.5 on Friday morning from 6am to find out if Pete & Kymba arrive in time to host their breakfast show.
