At least three teen boys risked their lives almost 100 metres above Queen Street Mall when they gained access to the roof of one of Brisbane’s most prominent inner-city hotels and precariously balanced on the rooftop ledge.

Brisbane Times saw the three “rooftoppers” on top of the 27-storey Hyatt Regency – formerly Lennons – about 12.30pm on Thursday.

One of the young males, wearing a backpack, stood on the ledge of the building, his toes clearly seen hanging over the side.

He had earlier been sitting on the side of the 96-metre building, with his legs dangling over the neighbouring rooftop below.

Earlier this month, News Corp reported three teens had been filmed engaging in similar behaviour on the 37-storey Admiralty Towers II building on Queen Street, near the Story Bridge.

It was unclear whether they were the same three people.

Hyatt Regency Brisbane general manager Saraid Carey said the hotel received calls from people in Suncorp headquarters, a block away in Ann Street, alerting staff of the activity.

“We immediately alerted the police and members of our leadership teams went to the rooftop to investigate the situation,” she said.

“The trespassers were promptly and safely escorted down to the reception, where they proceeded to run away.

“Hyatt Regency Brisbane takes the matter of safety and security of the upmost importance. We are fully co-operating with Brisbane City Police to include CCTV access to track down these individuals.”

Carey said security at the hotel would be beefed up to prevent future incidents.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the trio had already left the Hyatt by the time police had arrived.

“Police will take action if offenders of unregulated high-risk activity are identified and able to be located,” he said.

“Anyone with information or CCTV footage is urged to contact police.”

Patrols in the mall area did not locate the boys, the spokesman said, and the Hyatt management opted not to make an official complaint.
