From Andrew Stafford in Brisbane:

It’s been an error-strewn contest so far, but Collingwood had a focus on defensive pressure coming into this game, and so far they’re delivering. They are chasing and tackling like their life depends on it, and it’s putting the Lions on the back foot.

Moreover, Bobby Hill, who’s started the season quietly, has three of their first five. The Norm Smith Medallist is one of many key players the Magpies have been needing more from. The black and white hordes will be thrilled to see him up and about.

That was a top quarter from Collingwood who appear revitalised for the season.

Bobby Hill, the everywhere man, boots back-to-back goals. This was from another chest mark.

An excellent quarter for Collingwood.

Collingwood 5.3 (33) lead Brisbane 1.2 (8)

A very handy one for Collingwood, deep into the first quarter.

Collingwood 4.3 (27) lead Brisbane 1.2 (8)

From Andrew Stafford in Brisbane:

A couple of interesting positional shifts for Collingwood early in this match. Fin Macrae, who finally gets a full game, is lining up in the centre, with Nick Daicos at half-back. Macrae, the younger brother of the Bulldogs’ Jack, is a pure inside midfielder. Jack Crisp, who’s struggled at half-back, barely keeps his consecutive games streak alive as the sub (he’s on 217 and counting).

From Andrew Stafford at the Gabba:

The Lions also have problems on their half-back line, having already lost Keidean Coleman and Tom Doedee for the season to knee injuries, while Conor McKenna is nursing a hamstring. Chris Fagan has made the obvious move, with Dayne Zorko to the back flank. Zorko is a lightning decision maker and elite ball-user, but they’d prefer those skills at half-forward.

Reef McInness finds a major close to time-on.

Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott gets busy, and boots truly.

The Magpies small men are looking dangerous. In this case, Elliott got goal-side of his opponent and did his thing.

Collingwood by six points – halfway through the quarter.
