Pogacar, who is now one subject short of Belgium’s Eddy Merckx, who won the race a record five occasions between 1969 and 1975, said,” It means a lot to get one of the biggest tribes of the year, of bicycling. There’s a lot of pressure on me to give.”

Seixas, the club’s wonderful new skills, stayed with Pogacar when the Slovenian continued to follow the plan that had helped him succeed in the previous two centuries and launched his assault on the Cote de la Redoute.

On the Redoute, I was really going heavy, but on the bottom, he came second to me and I was like, “okay, actually satisfied,” Pogacar said of Seixas.

” Even back in my mind, I was now preparing to do a battle sprint because he was so powerful.”

Seixas, who had previously vowed to defend his name in Liege, finished 45 minute behind Pogacar, while Remco Evenepoel, a two-time champion, finished in a jump for third place.
