Travelling across India with a newborn may sound daunting to many, but for one British couple, it turned out to be a heartwarming adventure filled with train rides, warm strangers and a baby seemingly loving every bit of it.

British travel couple Hazel Lindsey and Martin Bailey recently shared a video documenting what it was like travelling across India with their two-month-old baby, giving social media a glimpse into their Indian Railways experience and the many unexpected moments that came along with it.

The video, shared on the couple’s Instagram account, stitched together short snippets from their journey through India. From long Indian Railways train rides to bustling stations, the clip showed the couple navigating travel with their infant in tow, while the baby appeared surprisingly calm, and even delighted, through most of it.

At one moment, the baby could be seen peacefully napping in a carrier while the couple moved through crowded spaces, while other snippets captured him quietly taking in the surroundings during train journeys.

Several wholesome moments also showed Indian strangers stopping to greet the child, smiling, waving and even playing with him, something the couple said became a regular part of their trip.

Sharing their experience in the caption, the couple described Indian Railways as “an excellent way to travel between cities,” adding that trains were mostly punctual and easy to book through apps. While some railway stations felt overwhelming because of the crowds, they mentioned that lifts and porters made travelling with “mountains of luggage” far easier.

The couple also joked that the baby seemed to thrive amid India’s constant movement and energy, writing that he had “the best naps of his life,” whether tucked into his carrier during tuk-tuk rides or while they stopped for meals, including mutton biryani dinners.

One thing that stood out to them most, however, was India’s warmth towards children. The pair wrote that strangers frequently approached them to say hello or ask to cuddle the baby, something they were personally comfortable with but advised other travelling parents to keep in mind before visiting.

They also spoke candidly about the challenges, admitting they struggled with the South Indian heat during February and were cautious about exposing their baby to tap water, joking that it was difficult stopping him from putting his hands into his mouth.

The couple added that restaurants often went out of their way to accommodate them, sometimes bringing over baby cribs during dinner, leaving them pleasantly surprised by how welcoming India felt towards infants.

Some users said the child was already making unforgettable memories at such a young age, while others admired how peacefully the baby slept despite the unfamiliar surroundings and humid weather.

Several others also echoed the couple’s observations, calling Indians naturally warm and hospitable, especially towards children.
