Mayank Yadav, one of the fastest bowlers in the history of the Indian Premier League, could return in Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Mayank, who last played an IPL game on May 4, 2025, has returned to full fitness, as per team director Tom Moody.
Speaking ahead of LSG’s away game against RCB, Moody said that the Lucknow side were boosted by the presence of Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, two of LSG’s best fast bowlers in the IPL. Moody said that LSG were careful with the rehabilitation process of the fast-bowling duo, who came back into the team from long-term injuries.

“The likes of Mayank and Mohsin (Khan) have all had quite long-term injuries. So, our medical team worked exceptionally hard over the last few months to get them up and ready to play,” Tom Moody said at the pre-match press conference.
“They are all ready to play now. Mohsin will probably do a final test tomorrow to see whether he’s available for selection. With regards to Mayank, he’s also ready to go. He didn’t jump into our thought processes early in the tournament purely because he was still a little bit underdone, just the bowling and the loads that any bowler needs to feel comfortable,” he added.
Mayank Yadav only played two matches in the Indian Premier League last season. His final game came on May 4, where he gave away 60 runs against the Punjab Kings.
Mayank was far from his fearsome best in that game, bowling a bunch of cutters and hovering around the 135-140 kmph mark, well below his usual high-pace standards.
Moody felt that both of his pacers were close to match fitness and that they were ready to bowl in the game if required.
While Mayank offers raw pace, left-armer Mohsin Khan brings an exceptional ability to read the batter and adapt to different match situations. Mohsin has bowled only once in IPL 2026, where he gave away just 19 runs in his four overs.
In the absence of the duo, veteran Mohammed Shami has shouldered the responsibility to lead the attack this season. Shami single-handedly destroyed SunRisers Hyderabad on April 5 and has a total of four wickets this season from four games.
“As we know, he’s a world-class bowler. He’s come off a very good domestic season, so he’s got the work as well underneath him. He looks fit and strong. We know that he brings a unique skill set with the new ball, swinging it both ways and being a real threat in the powerplay,” Moody said.
“He’s been terrific for us because he’s the head figure of our bowling attack. He’s got great wisdom and leadership characteristics, and he’s bringing all that to the table for us,” he added.
LSG are currently in the seventh position in the league table and will hope to challenge third-placed RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday, April 15.
