Travis Head has made a timely return to form to help Sunrisers Hyderabad to a six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians.
Head had failed to score a half-century this Indian Premier League (IPL) season before smashing 76 from just 30 deliveries at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Having opened the batting, Head’s knock featured eight sixes and four fours.
One of his sixes flew 99 metres from the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.
Head, who was dropped three times by Naman Dhir, and Abhishek Sharma (45) combined for an 129-run opening partnership.
The Pat Cummins-skippered Sunrisers overhauled the victory target of 244 with eight balls to spare.
They completed the biggest run chase at the celebrated venue in IPL history.
The Indians made 5-243 after the home side was ignited by Ryan Rickelton’s unbeaten 123.
“I definitely thought it was chaseable,” Cummins said of the victory target.
“You’ve got to be realistic now. It’s different to what it was five years ago in the IPL.
“Two-hundred [runs] used to be a tough chase. Now, even 12 [runs] an over, you feel like you can chase.
“You’ve just got to reset your expectations as a bowling group.”
Cummins returned the bowling figures of 0-39 from four overs.
It was the second win in a row for Cummins since his return to the IPL.
His team moved one place up to third on the tournament’s points table, while the Indians sit in ninth position.
