John Hancock hasn’t spoken to his family in more than 20 years.
However, on Wednesday, Hancock gave his family, Gina Rinehart, the richest person in Australia an olive tree.
Hancock stated that he wanted to “focus on the good” and find a way forward for the divided home following the deposition of an epic American Australian Supreme Court case that turned into a gigantic battle between two of the country’s richest mining clans.
He said,” My main goal for the next 21 days is to try to reunite us and get back together as a close family at various points in my life.”
” I hope we may suddenly put these traumatic experiences from centuries ago behind us, and honor and carry on our contributions to Australia as a family.”
Who benefits most from the multibillion-dollar tradition of Rinehart’s parents, Lang Hancock, and his business companion, Peter Wright, who established one of the world’s most profitable mining regions, is at the center of the case.
John Hancock and his younger girl, Bianca Hancock, filed a lawsuit against the Wright-Rinehart couple, alleging that they should have inherited the multibillion-dollar Hope Downs page from a trust that Lang had established prior to his passing. This trust has been the catalyst for Rinehart’s harsh and persistent conflict with her two eldest children.
Justice Jennifer Smith handed down a ruling on Wednesday that she thought was” a half-win” for both Rinehart and Wright’s descendants after 13 years, three judges, 51 court hearings, and more than$ 100 million in legal fees.
On the other hand, everything was received by Bianca and John. Their states are still pending mediation with their family.
Hancock Prospecting executive director Jay Newby’s lengthy statement following the ruling made it sound like his supreme boss was not ready to accept the olive branch that her son had offered him.
The decision by Justice Smith, which rejected John and Bianca’s ownership states in relation to the Hope Downs and East Angelas settlements, he said, “demonstrates that the claims made in the ingredients below from earlier media reports, including unjust claims of fraud in relation to the rights of Hope Downs and East Angelas, are clearly incorrect.”
Newby’s declaration included allegations made by John and Bianca that he described as “abusive and sensationalist,” many of which had been raised by the pair’s attorneys during the long trial and had been covered by the media.
The declaration, which appeared to be more concerned with John and Bianca than the headline claim made by the Wright’s home business, appears to have stifled Hancock’s hope of a reconciliation.
The dispute’s roots were planted years earlier, during the lifetime of Lang Hancock.
According to legend, Lang Hancock was flying across the Pilbara in 1952 when poor weather made it difficult for him to maneuver his planes low through the Turner River valleys, where he found himself mitten in the center of the largest metal ore loan in the world.
Eventually, Hancock asked his former friend Peter Wright to work on the website’s development. In an oddly persuasive letter in the 1980s, Hancock stated in an attempt to avoid” a disaster which could result in attorneys getting a large share of the selections” as both males struggled.
Justice Smith would rule a decade later that Hancock and Wright’s heirs, including Angela Bennett, his livid billionaire girl, would receive 50 % of all-expectations revenues from some of the Hope Downs mines.
Smith’s view has evolved into a sort of Rorschach test for each and every party to the dispute. However, the bigger, clearer conclusion drawn from the years of litigation is that Gina Rinehart has a strained relationship with her closest bloodstream relations despite her incredible wealth and extraordinary generosity toward popular social, charitable, and sporting causes.
( Her two younger daughters, Hope and Ginia, support her, though. )
Gina projected herself as the guardian of Lang Hancock’s tradition, but Wednesday’s ruling showed just how strained relationships between his parents were in his last generation of life, which Smith described as “bitter” and “in angry debate”
At the heart of that bonding was Rose Porteous, a Filipino lady 39 years his junior, who Rinehart later detested as an “oriental mistress” and attempted (unsuccessfully ) to get deported. Hancock’s marriage to her former maid in 1985 was the center of that tarnishing.
Noel Hutley, SC, Rinehart’s attorney, made the claim during the test that Hancock had cheated up the movie’s tasks by stealing money from his business to support his and Porteous ‘ lavish lifestyle, which Smith later refrained from doing.
She noted that Hancock had made significant distributions of wealth to Lang Hancock and Rose Porteous to help them live their lives, noting that Hancock had tried to keep Rinehart informed about the financial situation of the business. No evidence of Porteous ‘ actions are made.
John Hancock described the findings regarding his father as” a challenging medication to swallow” in a statement.
There is no one left to defend his reputation, even though I am aware that he was imperfect.
Hancock’s hope of a resolution with his family are ruined by her employer’s speech.
According to Smith, Hancock’s and Bianca’s claims that they were interested in Hope Downs as a result of their partnership had “fail at the first obstacle.”
However, following a 2019 High Court judgement, which accepted Gina Rinehart’s desire to keep that matter secret, their dispute with Rinehart over their estate, which has been ongoing for 15 years, may be settled by arbitration.
The mother’s poor heart has already been exposed in government.
