At the trailer launch of Peddi, actor Ram Charan reflected on the rise of sports dramas in Indian cinema, crediting Salman Khan and Aamir Khan for paving the way with films like Sultan and Dangal.

Speaking at the Mumbai event on Monday, Ram Charan said these films gave actors the confidence to explore the genre. “Thanks to Salman Sir and Aamir Sir for giving us and paving the path for such films like Sultan and Dangal. It gave us so much confidence. Thank you both of you for starting this journey and, so, it was believed that these kinds of films could work (sic),” he said.

The actor also spoke about the journey of making Peddi, describing it as both emotionally and physically demanding. “I have been living with this film for the last two years, while Buchi Babu Sana has lived with it for almost five years,” he said, acknowledging the director’s long commitment to the project.

Charan recalled an injury he sustained during filming, adding a lighter note to the conversation. He said he suffered a ligament tear in his hand while shooting a wrestling sequence and jokingly blamed the director for it. “I have a ligament tear in my hand because of Buchi Babu. Instead of trained artistes, he brought real wrestlers, and I got injured. But it remains a beautiful memory,” he said.

Directed by Sana, Peddi is set in a rural backdrop and follows a determined villager who uses sport to unite his community and defend their pride against a powerful rival. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 4, 2026, with premiere shows expected a day earlier on June 3.
