Sydney have opted not to bring veteran midfielder Luke Parker into the side against Fremantle with the former co-captain not making the trip west ahead of Friday’s clash at Optus Stadium.
Parker was listed as an emergency in the ladder-leading Swans’ win over Greater Western Sydney last week but failed to join his teammates as they went through their paces in Perth.
The veteran hasn’t featured this year after suffering a broken arm in the pre-season.
The Dockers will be relieved to come up against a Sydney side without Parker after he starred in the side’s most recent meeting at Optus Stadium in round 19 last year, earning three Brownlow votes for a 31-disposal, eight-clearance masterclass.
Last week’s other Swans emergencies in ruckman Peter Ladhams and Braeden Campbell, as well as substitute Robbie Fox, made an appearance during the Thursday session.
Aaron Francis comes into the squad as a replacement for Tom McCartin (concussion) and is set to make his first appearance for the Swans this season against the Dockers.
Defender Jake Lloyd admitted it was a tough void to fill but had confidence in Francis.
“He’s been playing really strong football in the VFL, so he’ll come in and play that role really well,” Lloyd said.
Ladhams is also yet to play a game so far this year but could be included to help nullify the influence of Fremantle ruck duo Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson, amid concerns over Darcy’s availability.
Darcy did not train on Wednesday after being subbed out in the win over Richmond with calf soreness.
Dockers coach Justin Longmuir said on Wednesday morning the club expected Darcy to play, although forecast wet conditions in Perth may alter the club’s plans regardless.
Fremantle are expected to make at least one change with Nat Fyfe coming into the 22 after acting as the sub last week.
Longmuir hinted veteran forward Michael Walters could be in line to take on the role, while Sam Switkowski is expected to return from concussion after an extended break.
Teams will be named at 4.20pm this afternoon.
