Magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocks city of Orange in Central West NSW

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake has rocked the city of Orange in Central West NSW.

The quake struck just south of the Canobolas State Forest near the Cadia gold mine, about 8.20pm on Tuesday.

Geosciences Australia states the depth was about 5km.

More than 2000 people have reported feeling the earthquake, spanning as far south as Batemans Bay.

People living in Sydney also reported feeling the quake.

“My building shook in Double Bay,” said one person on social media.

Others reported feeling the quake in Randwick, Maroubra, Coogee and Bronte.”

The ABC reports houses in Orange – 35km north of the epicentre – shook for about 30 seconds.

The previous record earthquake felt in Orange was in 2017, the broadcaster reports.
