The trailer of Kara, starring Dhanush, has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into a story set against a turbulent historical backdrop. Directed by Vignesh Raja, who made his debut with Por Thozhil (2022), the film is scheduled to release in theatres on April 30. It also features Mamitha Baiju in a key role.
The trailer opens with a Doordarshan announcement referencing the 1991 Gulf War, linking it to burning oil wells in Iraq and a resulting fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu. This forms the backdrop for the narrative, which follows a series of bank robberies led by Karasaami, also known as Kara, played by Dhanush.
At the centre of the investigation is Bharathan, a determined police officer portrayed by Suraj Venjaramoodu. The film presents Kara as a former robber attempting to reform, only to be drawn back into crime due to circumstances. As the story progresses, he faces resistance and judgement from those around him, adding layers to his struggle.

The screenplay, written by Alfred Prakash and Vignesh Raja, explores themes of survival and moral conflict. The film also features Jayaram, KS Ravikumar, Karunaas, Sreeja Ravi, Prithvi Pandiarajan and MS Bhaskar in key roles.
Music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, marking another collaboration with Dhanush after Idli Kadai (2025). Dhanush has also contributed as a lyricist, along with Yuga Bharathi, Uma Devi, Arunraja Kamaraj, Karthik Netha and Arivu.
The technical team includes Theni Eswar as director of photography, Sreejith Sarang as editor, Mayapandi handling production design, and Dinesh Kasi overseeing action sequences.
Kara is produced by Ishari K Ganesh under Vels Film International, with Kushmita Ganesh attached as co-producer.
