Dhurandhar: The Revenge received attention for its large-scale action scenes after its release in March, and now the team has shared details about how one of its biggest sequences was filmed.
SFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi revealed that the film’s climax explosion involving Ranveer Singh was shot using real explosives, with nearly 500 litres of petrol used for the sequence instead of CGI effects.

Speaking on a podcast with Hindi Rush, Vishal said director Aditya Dhar was clear from the beginning that he wanted practical explosions instead of visual effects. While smaller blasts are often created on set and later enhanced digitally, that method was deliberately avoided for Dhurandhar 2.
According to Vishal, the most challenging moment was the climax tanker blast sequence, which required careful planning due to the risks involved. The scene reportedly used 500 litres of petrol while Ranveer had to walk near the blast zone.
“Imagine 500 litres of petrol. All the fragments in that blast were real. Ranveer was walking in close proximity, and I had to make sure the flames did not reach Ranveer. We did all the work and precisely told Ranveer Singh where he could start walking. Humne actually Dhurandhar mein khoon paseena diya hai (We actually gave our blood and sweat to Dhurandhar),” he said.
Vishal further shared that Arjun Rampal was originally meant to be part of the shot but was removed before filming began due to safety concerns. He admitted he was more anxious than Ranveer during the sequence, while the actor remained calm and trusted the crew’s preparation.
He also recalled that several team members stayed back after pack-up to witness the explosion being filmed. After the shot was completed, Ranveer praised the team’s effort and said, “Faad diya tune (You absolutely smashed it).”
Explaining why the sequence became even more demanding, Vishal said the team used real train bases and containers to stage the blast. He also revealed that he pushed for a larger explosion despite concerns from production.
“I had a lot of production pressure on me. Real train base and containers were used for the explosion. It was very challenging, but we were confident. Production told me to use 250 litres, but I was adamant that at least 500 litres of fuel was required. To make that explode, I also had to add 25 kilos of explosive in each of these tanks to get the right effect. Maine suna sabki, ki apne mann ki (I heard all of them but did what my heart said),” he added.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge follows Ranveer Singh’s character Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who infiltrates a terror network under the disguise of Hamza Ali Mazari as part of a mission to bring it down.
The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in key roles. It hit theatres on March 19.
