BMW Motorrad has officially launched the new BMW F 450 GS in India, with prices starting at Rs 4.70 lakh and going up to Rs 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the motorcycle are now open across dealerships, while deliveries are scheduled to begin from June 2026.

Positioned as the brand’s most accessible GS offering, the F 450 GS replaces the outgoing BMW G 310 GS and marks BMW’s entry into the competitive mid-capacity adventure touring segment. The bike is being locally manufactured in partnership with TVS Motor Company at its Hosur facility.

Variants and positioning

The F 450 GS is available in three variants — Base, Exclusive and GS Trophy. While all three share the same powertrain, they differ in terms of equipment, electronics and styling.

The motorcycle is positioned as a premium twin-cylinder alternative in its class, taking on rivals such as the Honda NX500, while also competing with popular single-cylinder ADVs like the KTM 390 Adventure and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

Design and ergonomics

The F 450 GS carries forward BMW’s signature GS design language, highlighted by an ‘X’-shaped LED headlamp, a sculpted fuel tank and a tall, upright stance. It also borrows styling cues from the flagship BMW R 1300 GS, reinforcing its premium positioning.

A seat height of 845mm and a 14-litre fuel tank aim to strike a balance between touring comfort and off-road usability. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels with dual-purpose tubeless tyres.

Engine and performance

Powering the F 450 GS is a newly developed 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts, while the segment-first Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) automates low-speed clutch operation, reducing rider effort in traffic and off-road conditions.

The engine features a 135-degree crankshaft offset, aimed at delivering smoother performance with minimal vibrations and a distinctive exhaust note.

Chassis, suspension and braking

Built on a new tubular steel frame, the F 450 GS is designed to balance on-road comfort with off-road capability. Suspension duties are handled by upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound damping.

The motorcycle weighs 178kg (kerb), making it relatively light for a twin-cylinder ADV. Braking is managed by a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston caliper and a rear disc setup, supported by ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control and Engine Drag Torque Control.

Features and technology

BMW has equipped the F 450 GS with a comprehensive electronics suite, including:

  • 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity
  • Riding modes: Rain, Road, Enduro and Enduro Pro
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
  • Heated grips and adjustable levers
  • USB-C charging socket

Higher variants add features such as Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, taller windscreen and off-road-focused hardware, while the GS Trophy variant gets sport suspension, aluminium protection parts and distinctive tricolour styling.

Market outlook

With its twin-cylinder engine, relatively lightweight construction and feature-rich package, the F 450 GS bridges the gap between entry-level and middleweight adventure motorcycles. Its pricing places it close to twin-cylinder rivals, while still appealing to buyers upgrading from single-cylinder ADVs.

The launch further strengthens BMW Motorrad’s presence in India’s rapidly growing adventure touring segment, offering a more refined and technologically advanced entry point into the iconic GS lineup.
