Rajasthan Royals return to Jaipur under growing pressure, and even victory in their previous outing has done little to ease the scrutiny surrounding the franchise. As they prepare to host Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Royals find themselves dealing with far more than just the demands of another crucial IPL fixture.
The spotlight will fall firmly on stand-in captain Riyan Parag, who heads into the contest under mounting pressure after being caught on camera using an e-cigarette in the dugout during Rajasthan’s recent game. The incident, which quickly spread across social media, led to Parag being sanctioned by the IPL Governing Council and has placed both the player and the franchise under uncomfortable public scrutiny ahead of Friday’s clash.

For Parag, the pressure is no longer limited to captaincy alone. The controversy has only sharpened attention on a season that has already been underwhelming with the bat. Tasked with leading Rajasthan in a crucial stretch of the campaign, Parag has yet to deliver the sort of innings expected of a senior batter carrying added responsibility.
His returns reflect that struggle. Parag has managed just 117 runs this season at a strike-rate of 124, and is yet to register a score of 30 or more. For a player entrusted with leadership and expected to anchor Rajasthan’s middle order, those numbers have only added to the scrutiny.
Against a Delhi Capitals side still searching for momentum and consistency, Parag now walks into a fixture where the pressure is personal as much as tactical. In Jaipur, Rajasthan need a captain who can steady the noise around them. Parag needs an innings that can do the same.
RR vs DC: DELHI IN NEED OF INSPIRATION
Delhi Capitals arrive in Jaipur searching for answers. Their last two defeats have not just hurt their position in the table, but also raised uncomfortable questions about their direction at a crucial stage of the season.
The first was a defeat that should never have happened. KL Rahul produced one of the innings of the tournament, smashing 150 in a T20 innings, only for Delhi to still end up on the losing side. It was the kind of result that can shake a dressing room, exposing just how little support their leading performers are receiving.
The second was even more damaging. Bowled out for just 75 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi were handed one of their most sobering defeats of the season. It was not simply the loss, but the manner of it, that made it so alarming. Their batting folded without resistance, their confidence looked fragile and the defeat exposed just how quickly their campaign could begin to unravel.
Two losses in isolation can be dismissed as a bad week. These two have felt heavier. Delhi have looked short on clarity, short on composure and, most importantly, short on inspiration.
That is now the central concern heading into Jaipur. Delhi do not just need a win. They need someone to lift the mood, reset the tone and give the campaign fresh direction. Whether that spark comes from Rahul, the middle order or one of their senior bowlers could define how their season moves from here.
RR vs DC: RETURN OF MITCHELL STARC?
Delhi Capitals may yet find the spark they have been searching for in the return of Mitchell Starc. The Australian quick was seen going through his drills during Delhi’s training session in Jaipur, and his availability could hand the visitors the kind of lift they badly need.
Delhi have looked short on bite in recent outings, and Starc’s return would offer both edge and intimidation. Even in a format built around aggression, genuine pace remains one of the quickest ways to disrupt rhythm. When paired with Starc’s ability to attack the stumps and hit hard lengths, it becomes a weapon Delhi have missed.
Against Rajasthan, that could prove especially significant. The Royals have shown a willingness to attack early and take risks in the powerplay, but Starc’s pace presents a different kind of challenge. His ability to rush batters for time and force indecision could be the ideal antidote against Rajasthan’s aggressive top order.
His return would also sharpen one of the most intriguing contests of the fixture. If Starc is cleared to play, much of the focus will fall on his battle with Rajasthan’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old has already built a reputation for taking on elite pace, having shown little hesitation against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood.
That makes this a compelling tactical matchup. Delhi may see Starc as their best chance to test Vaibhav’s method against left-arm seam bowling, late swing and high-end pace through the air. Rajasthan, meanwhile, will back the teenager to continue playing without fear.
If Starc does return, Delhi will hope his presence offers more than just wickets. They will hope it brings the edge, authority and inspiration their campaign currently lacks.
RR vs DC: PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
The pitch used in the previous game at Jaipur appeared in line with the venue’s reputation for producing good batting surfaces. It looked fresh, well rolled and carried a light covering of grass, though there was enough dryness underneath to suggest strokeplay would still be rewarded. The early view from the surface suggested there could be some assistance for seamers with the new ball, but once batters settled, it looked like a pitch where runs were there to be made.
There is some weather movement in play, which could slightly affect conditions in Jaipur through the evening. While the forecast does not suggest a washout, light rain and increasing cloud cover later in the day could add some moisture to the surface. That may help the pitch stay tackier for longer, offer seamers a little more grip and make the new ball slightly more effective than expected. On a surface that looked likely to favour batters, even brief moisture could delay that shift and make the early overs more important. It is unlikely to dramatically change the pitch, but conditions may be less straightforward than they initially appeared.
