The German Anti-Fraud Office claims to have started an investigation into former British ambassador to the United States and original European Union politician Peter Mandelson over his ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein.
” OLAF you ensure that the event you’re referring to is being investigated.” OLAF can not, however, make any additional comments as the research is still in progress,” it said in an email on Friday.
The purpose of this is to safeguard the privacy of continuous and potential pending investigations, as well as any pending criminal proceedings, as well as personal and legal rights, it continued.
The official opening of a probe into 72-year-old Mandelson, who served as the EU’s industry director between 2004 and 2008, comes after OLAF had previously stated in February that it was looking into the position.
Mandelson’s authorized members did not respond to a request for comment right away.
OLAF claims it looks into problem, severe misconduct in the EU’s institutions, and fraud against the EU budget.
Mandelson was appointed as the UK adviser to the US in late 2024 by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had ministerial responsibilities prior to that time when Labour was at their peak, but was later fired after an email revealed how intimately connected his connections to Epstein.
