Australians are set for a mixed bag of weather this Anzac Day, with mild conditions dominating the south as a cold and wet front sets in for Queensland and parts of NSW.

While Anzac Day is typically chilly and frosty, requiring attendees to bring out puffer jackets and scarfs, April 25 will be mostly warm, dry and sunny, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

For those attending Dawn Services, conditions would be mostly mild and warm, driven by a stubborn high pressure system hovering over the Tasman Sea, senior meteorologist Dean Narramore told NewsWire.

The very high pressure system has caused hot temperatures to settle over the south, bringing blue skies and mild conditions across southeastern Australia.

Tasmania and Victoria would feel the majority of the heat this Saturday, Mr Narramore told NewsWire.

“(Saturday will be) good weather to get out and about and attend those Dawn Services, (playing) two up or anything else that’s going on around the place for those that are doing stuff in the afternoon,” he said.

The pleasant weather conditions will continue for Melburnians well into the week, with temperatures forecast to reach the mid-20s until next weekend.

There will also be clear skies and warm temperatures for residents in inland NSW and Sydney’s south.

The same cannot be said for northern Sydney and much of the NSW coast, particularly north of Newcastle.

“Sydney could have a possible shower or two – but they’ll be isolated and brief,” Mr Narramore said,

“Once we get to kind of Newcastles and particularly the Mid-North and Northern Rivers, we’re likely to see more widespread showers through there.”

These cooler conditions are also due to the high pressure system over the Tasman Sea, which has pushed easterly and southerly winds north, making temperatures chillier for those in northern NSW and parts of Queensland.

The wet weather will continue in southern parts of Queensland, with residents along the coast – particularly in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast – set to cop a drenching on Anzac Day.

“(Showers will) be brief, and hit and miss if they do occur, but hopefully it’s OK for Dawn Services,” Mr Narramore said.

“Those will showers likely continue as well during the day as well for much of Brisbane and southeast Queensland.”

Residents between K’gari and Mackay will also likely cop a shower or two, with the rain possibly moving as far as Cairns and Townsville.

Despite the warmer temperatures between Victoria and southern NSW, people in Canberra are expected to wake up to some frost and chilly conditions on Saturday.

The rest of the country would be met with sunshine and warm temperatures, Mr Narramore said.

“(It will be) warm, dry and sunny for the entire South Australia (on Saturday),” he said.

“WA is similar as well, looking at warm, dry and sunny conditions for much of the state.”

Conditions will also be dry and sunny for most of the Northern Territory on Anzac Day.
