Actor Kajol has shared her view on Gen Z, saying young people today are exposed to so much information that they can find it difficult to work out what they truly want. Her comments came in a conversation with podcaster Lilly Singh, where the discussion turned to how younger people process the world around them.
Kajol said the difference, as she sees it, lies in the amount of information available to each generation. She said her own generation grew up with far less input and often had to arrive at opinions on its own. That, she suggested, meant deciding personal limits, ethics and boundaries without the constant flow of guidance now available online and elsewhere.

“I feel Gen Z today somehow has so much of information that they’re just swimming,” she said.
Information overload and decision-making
Explaining her point further, Kajol said Gen Z is growing up in a world where information is immediate and always within reach. Because of that, she said, young people are often aware of what is seen as right and wrong. But she added that knowing those things in theory is not the same as deciding what matters personally.
Summing up her point, she said, “They know about it, of course, because everybody knows that, oh, this is right, this is wrong, and this is supposed to be like this, and that is supposed to be like that. But what do you want? Make up your mind about it.”
Different ways of processing information
Lilly responded by saying Kajol appeared to be talking about critical thinking and the ability to make decisions in the middle of information overload. She then asked whether this constant noise affects Kajol’s two children in different ways.
Kajol said it does. She said her daughter and son process things differently. The actor added that she notices a contrast partly because one is a girl and the other is a boy.
“I think boys lead a slightly simpler life, and girls have a lot more thrust at them. It does show up in certain places. It’s true. They have to always be on,” she added.

Kajol is married to actor Ajay Devgn. They have two children, Nysa and Yug.
On the work front, Kajol’s last theatrical release was the film Maa, which opened in 2025. Her other film, the same year, was Sarzameen, which was released directly on OTT. She also hosted a talk show alongside actor-turned-author Twinkle Khanna.
