When she takes on a competitive contest at Thursday’s Wyong meeting, a still-slightly-raced state horse will attempt to catch the attention of more highly credentialed metropolitan-based rivals.
Grandini, a well-known five-year-old big-finishing champion at Scone, may face a challenging Benchmark 64 Patient over 2100m to complete the program.
She opened at$ 7.50 in early betting, which is a drying surface and likely a Good 4 rating, keeping her current speed and advancement. She could prove to be the best value skater all day.
Grandini, a daughter of Toronado, won her sole previous two starts, coming home soon after defeating a BM 58 industry at Muswellbrook over 1750m. She only ran 21 runs.
She then moved up to BM 64 degree over 2100m at Gosford, and she was unable to earn, soaring home late to lose by a head after covering a lot of terrain.
A few athletes have experienced the much more challenging issue of Group 3 behavior, making it even more difficult for her to run an actually deeper BM 64.
At Group 3 levels, California Grass, a six-year-old mare, and Luna Bay, a three-year-old mare, were both defeated far and wide at Sydney fall carnival.
California Grass in the John Thompson yard was unable to defeat a runner-in in the Group 3 Epona Stakes ( 1900m ) at Rosehill before coming back with a respectable second placing in a BM 68 there.
Luna Bay from the Richard and Will Freedman stable was defeated a long way in the Group 3 Adrian Knox ( 2000m ) at Rosehill behind Profoundly, who finished in second place in the Group 1 Australian Oaks over 2400m last Saturday.
Normally, both those provincially ranked gallopers will be competing for favoritism, including Aussie Nation, a previous top scorer over Grandini at Gosford, and Dolce Dior, who finished just behind California Grass at Rosehill ten days ago.
The most interesting struggle has been saved for previous on a sturdy card, with California Grass on the$ 4.70 line leading the charge of the first-place finishers.
If Grandini you turn things around at Wyong, she will likely be freshened up for the two-day Biscuit festival second quarter.
