India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh refused to apologise to Daryl Mitchell after hitting him with a throw during the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The incident took place in the 11th over of the second innings after Mitchell had struck the India seamer for successive sixes.

Arshdeep fought back with a couple of dot balls but ended up hitting Mitchell in the heat of the moment. On the fifth ball of the over, Arshdeep fielded a delivery that was hit straight back at him by the Kiwi batter and threw the ball at the stumps.

However, with the Kiwi batter well inside his crease, the ball ended up striking him, which left Mitchell furious. Much to everyone’s surprise, Arshdeep did not even apologise for his actions and began walking back to his bowling mark as Mitchell angrily charged towards him.

The Kiwi batter then got involved in an animated discussion with the on-field umpire, prompting India captain Suryakumar Yadav to intervene and apologise to Mitchell. The umpire also warned Arshdeep for his actions as the dramatic over eventually came to an end.

Later at the end of the over, Arshdeep did end up walking towards Mitchell and apologising as the two players sorted out their differences. Mitchell was eventually dismissed for 17 (11) by Axar Patel, who scalped his third wicket of the match.

Earlier in the day, India posted a massive score of 255/5 in their allotted overs after being put in to bat first by the New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner. Sanju Samson (89 off 46) once again topped the batting charts, with his third successive half-century, while Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21) and Ishan Kishan (54 off 25) also slammed fifties. Courtesy of their performances, India posted the highest score in the T20 World Cup knockouts.
