After US President Donald Trump called skier Hunter Hess a “real fool” for discussing the mingled emotions he felt representing the US at the 2026 Olympics, American Winter Olympians have spoken about the power of variety and the importance of free speech.

Hess spoke about the difficulty of representing America at a press conference last week in light of the popular protests and violence in the US following ICE officials ‘ shooting and killing of two people in Minneapolis next month.

There is undoubtedly a significant going on that I’m not the biggest supporter of, and I believe a lot of people aren’t,” Hess said. The statement” I don’t represent all that’s happening in the US just because I’m wearing the flag” is untrue.

Trump responded to Hess on Truth Social, saying that it was “very difficult to source for someone like this” and that Hess” doesn’t have tried out for the staff, and it’s too terrible he’s in it.”

The United States halfpipe group was questioned about Trump’s responses in Livigno on Monday, when Maddie Mastro said it was crucial to speak out against injustice.

” I’m happy to reflect Team USA and my state,” Mastro said. ” I’m saddened by what’s happening at home as well. It’s definitely difficult, and I don’t think we can ignore that.

” But at the same moment, I represent a nation that shares my principles of kindness and compassion, and we unite in times of inequity.”

There had been a lot of misunderstanding, according to partner Bea Kim, whose parents from Korea immigrated to the United States.

I personally am very happy to indicate the United States. Having said that,” I believe variety is what makes our country so strong and specific,” Kim said.

There is no place else in the earth where you can truly have the freedom to do whatever you want, in my opinion. I mean, I believe that’s what we are all known to do now. We all had very distinct background, and we all had to “pursue” our goals and remain present.

Chloe Kim, a two-time Olympic halfpipe hero whose parents immigrated from South Korea, made the same remarks and also spoke of the options the US had provided for her community.

This one certainly hits quite close to home for me because my parents are immigrants, and I think it’s really important for us to join and sort of stand up for one another in these difficult times, Kim said.

I consider myself extremely happy to indicate the United States. My home and I have a lot of opportunities in the US, but I also believe that we are free to express our thoughts about what is happening. I believe that we must lead with love and compassion, and I would like to see more of that.

European people have taken to the streets to rally US Vice President JD Vance’s reputation along with a force of ICE providers, but the event’s attendance at the Milano Cortina Olympics has been poorly received.

The audience booed when Vance was shown on camera during the opening ceremony last week at the San Siro Stadium because of the hostility toward Vance and ICA.
