While managing finances for elderly parents or other family members could be a tough task at times, the introduction of UPI Circle has significantly made it much simpler and easier. The feature simply allows one to make payments on others’ behalf, which is safe and easy, especially to support senior citizens, control spending for young adults, and even secure delegation for small businesses. Taking it a step further, the NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) has now launched a new feature on the BHIM app that allows users to delegate payment access to their top five trusted contacts.
Introduced as a partial delegation, UPI Circle allows the primary user to authorise up to five secondary users to make the payments, with each transaction requiring direct approval from the primary user through UPI PIN on the BHIM app. This will not only ensure transparent and controlled delegated transactions but also offer real-time notifications and maintain visibility on all activities. Speaking on the same, Lalitha Nataraj, Managing Director and CEO, NBSL, said, “UPI Circle enhances the way we share and manage our money and supports a more interconnected society.” It also promotes financial inclusion by allowing individuals without a UPI-linked bank account to request payments from their trusted users to approve the transaction in real-time on the BHIM app.

Here’s how to use UPI Circle on BHIM:
1. Update or download the latest version of the BHIM app, i.e., 4.0.2 or later.
2. Go to the UPI Circle section on the Home Screen or Menu.
3. Click on Add Secondary User and put in their UPI ID or scan their QR code.
4. Next, set the delegation type as “Approve every payment.”
5. The secondary user will receive an invitation, and upon accepting, they can start payments.
6. The primary user will also receive a real-time approval request for every transaction and must authorise it through UPI PIN.
Besides the BHIM app, UPI Circle is also available to use on other UPI apps like PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm.
