‘Those Behind The Scenes…’: Rajnath Singh Warns Pahalgam Conspirators Of Swift Response

In a strong message after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said India will soon give a befitting reply to those responsible. He said even those who conspired “behind the scenes” to carry out such “nefarious acts” will not be spared.

“The people responsible for such acts will get a befitting reply in the near future,” he said during his speech at the Arjan Singh Memorial Lecture in New Delhi. “We will not spare even those who have conspired behind the scenes.”

Expressing his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, Singh said the attack was “cowardly” and targeted a particular religion. He reiterated India’s “firm resolve” towards “zero tolerance policy against terrorism”.

“Every citizen of India is united against this cowardly act. From this platform, I assure the countrymen that in view of the incident, the Government of India will take every step that is necessary and appropriate,” he said. “India is such an old civilization and such a big country that it cannot be intimidated by any such terrorist activities. The people responsible for such acts will get a strong response in the near future.”

He earlier reviewed the security situation in J&K in the aftermath of the terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. It is learnt that the defence minister directed the armed forces to enhance their combat readiness and increase intensity of anti-terror operations. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi presented a detailed overview of the security situation in J&K, including deployment of his forces, at the meeting.

According to sources, the nearly two-and-a-half-hour meeting was attended by NSA Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and Air Chief Marshal AK Singh.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai too joined the meeting, where all possible aspects of the situation that emerged following the attack were discussed, the sources said.
