The eatery in Chandni Chowk’s Paranthe Wali Gali has been running since 1975, and many films, web series, and documentaries have been filmed here
Everyone is aware of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s love for Chandni Chowk, having spent his entire childhood in this area of Delhi. But there is a shop in Paranthe Wali Gali with which the actor shares a special connection.
The eatery named Pandit Kanhaiyalal and Durga Prasad holds a special place in Akshay Kumar’s heart. Owner Gaurav Tiwari told Local18 that the actor’s grandmother’s house, where he used to live, is located on the same street. Gaurav revealed that Akshay Kumar dreamt of going to Bollywood while living in that house and spent his childhood playing in the streets of Chandni Chowk.

Gaurav shared that his shop has been running since 1975. Akshay Kumar used to visit the shop to eat parathas as a child, and other members of his family also frequented it. Many films, web series, Savdhaan India episodes, serials, and documentaries have been shot at this shop. During the shooting of the film Rakshabandhan, Akshay Kumar even visited the eatery with his sister to enjoy the parathas.
The shop offers 25 varieties of parathas, including potato, dal, cabbage, cashew, bitter gourd, radish, pea, paneer, papad, tomato, rabri, and banana parathas, all served with three side dishes. Prices range from just Rs 100 to Rs 150.
Favourite of Politicians and Celebrities
Gaurav also mentioned that politicians, actors, directors, and cricketers have all relished the parathas at his shop. Photographs of famous visitors, including Indira Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sheila Dikshit, Kapil Dev, Jadeja, Ranbir Kapoor, Imtiaz Ali, and Akshay Kumar, adorn the walls of the shop. He added that Imtiaz Ali and Akshay Kumar are regular customers and, whenever they are in Delhi, they make sure to visit the shop to enjoy its parathas.
