Former Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott has called for Tottenham to sack Igor Tudor to have any chance of avoiding relegation from the English Premier League.

Ex-Juventus coach Tudor’s Spurs tenure has been a disaster since taking over from axed manager Thomas Frank last month.

Under Tudor, Spurs have lost four successive games in all competitions and are just one point above the relegation zone ahead of their clash with Liverpool on Monday morning (AEDT).

“They’re in trouble,” said Walcott, who was in at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo on Thursday for the Premier League trophy tour.

“There are other teams around them that I feel like want it (Premier League survival) more.

“West Ham were well out of it, now all of a sudden they’re only a point behind Spurs.

“They (Tottenham) don’t believe it’s going to happen, but you need to perform.

“It’s hard to believe they could go down, but I can see it. They’ve got to change their thoughts and their mindset.”

And Walcott said the best way of doing that was to replace Tudor.

“They need somebody who knows the league, even someone like Sean Dyche or a big Sam (Allardyce),” he said.

Dyche, who was last month sacked by Nottingham Forest, has made a name for himself saving relegation-threatened clubs.

Walcott felt Spurs made the wrong chance in sacking former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou after he guided the club to Europa League glory last season.

“I’m a believer that if you win something, you need the chance to grow and build that environment,” he said,

“Ange deserved more time. He did what he said he was going to do in winning a trophy, so for me he’s a success.

“I did like Ange. I liked how honest he was.”

Walcott was confident Arsenal, Tottenham’s arch rivals, would win this season’s Premier League title.

The Gunners, who finished runners-up in the previous three seasons, have a seven-point lead at the top of the table over Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

“The difference with them this season is they’ve got players who are just hungry to go that one step further,” said Walcott, who is now an Arsenal ambassador.
