The Walker Brothers ‘ final part, Gary Leeds, has passed away at the age of 83.
He passed away shortly before Christmas, it became clear on Wednesday ( 04.03.26 ) that he had a stroke that put an end to the life of the American drummer and vocalist who had helped create one of the most popular pop bands of the 1960s.
Gary passed away on March 1 in Essex, according to friends and family.
He gained notoriety as a member of the Walker Brothers, performing under the labels John Walker and Scott Walker, along with John Maus and Noel Scott Engel.
After moving from the United States to Britain in the middle of the 1960s, the pair became household names with touches like Make It Easy On Yourself, My Send Is Coming In, and The SunAin’t Gonna Shine Anymore.
Following the passing of Scott Walker at the age of 76 and John Walker at the age of 67, Gary remained the group’s last surviving representative.
A close friend of Gary’s dying shared news of his passing in a social internet information posted by his wife Barbara Leeds.
Our dear friend, Gary, passed away this night, and I know you did all join me in sending our deepest condolences and love to all the Leeds home and their close friends, the friend said in the statement.
Gary was the most lovable of all the men, and I find comfort in knowing that you all, along with your passion and information on his birthday and Christmases, made him very, very glad that you all also cared and loved him just as much as you always have.
” Rest in our beautiful Mr. Gary Walker’s caring peace. We will all be sorely missed, and you will be so welcome.
The conditions surrounding Gary’s death were confirmed by another family friend.
He had a stroke shortly before Christmas, and they told The Sun,” I’m sad to ensure that he passed away peacefully on March 1.”
Along with their brother Michael, daughter-in-law Louise, and nephew Robert, Gary is also survived by his family Barbara, to whom he had been married for 46 years.
Gary and John Maus and Noel Scott Engel formed The Walker Brothers in 1964, and the band adopted the Walker nickname as their stage name despite not having any connections to any of the members.
Noel and John Maus performed as Scott Walker, and Gary adopted the name Gary Walker.
The trio’s 1965 move to the United Kingdom saw the release of their version of the Burt Bacharach music Make It Easy On Yourself, which peaked at number one in the UK figures.
The group made a big hit with The SunAin’t Gonna Shine Anymore, which likewise became their biggest hit in the United States, after My Send Is Coming In and My Send Is Coming In.
In the middle of the 1960s, the singer’s popularity increased, especially among teenager audiences, but conflicts within the team ultimately led to their divorce in 1968. They briefly reunited in 1975, and their last chart-topping hit, No Sorrow, was released, before breaking up once more in 1978.
