There is a change in the cast of the medical drama series The Pitt. Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr Parker Ellis, has been promoted to a series regular for the third season.
At the same time, Supriya Ganesh, who has portrayed senior resident Dr Samira Mohan since the first season, will leave the show after the second season concludes, as reported by Variety.

Sources told the entertainment portal that Ganesh’s departure is driven by the storyline. Since the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is common for residents to rotate in and out. Dr Mohan’s character spent part of the second season considering her career options after completing her residency.
Harris appeared in four episodes during the first season and returned for the second. Besides her role in The Pitt, she has acted in series such as Daisy Jones and the Six on Amazon Prime Video and Glamorous on Netflix. Her other credits include This Is Us, The L Word: Generation Q, Abbott Elementary, and Good Girls.
The Pitt season one was well received by both viewers and critics. The series earned 13 Emmy nominations and won awards including outstanding drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Noah Wyle, outstanding guest actor in a drama series for Shawn Hatosy, and outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for Katherine LaNasa.
The promotion of Harris and Ganesh’s exit reflects the evolving cast typical of a medical drama set in a teaching hospital environment.
The Pitt is streaming on JioHotstar in India.
