A 26-year-old man in Jharkhand attempted to kill his eight-month-pregnant girlfriend by feeding her poison-laced golgappas. The woman suffered serious injuries and vomited blood, and had to hide in the forest the entire night before managing to reach her home to disclose the ordeal to her family.
Saket Keshari, 26, and the woman, 23, had been in a relationship for six years. They had their first child together a year earlier. The community in the Garhwa district intervened and made them break up. However, Keshari contacted the woman a few months later, and they reconciled, with him promising her marriage. Later on, the woman got pregnant.

According to her complaint to the police, on February 21, at around 2 pm, Keshari called the woman and asked her if she wanted to eat something. She expressed her desire to eat golgappas. The 23-year-old allegedly began vomiting and bleeding from her mouth after eating the snacks.
Then, at 4 pm, the accused offered to take his girlfriend to a doctor. However, instead of taking her to the doctor, he took her to a forest on his bike. He took her about 100 metres into the forest and assaulted her, and attempted to strangle her. This caused the woman to sustain serious eye injury and she fell unconscious. After regaining consciousness, she managed to cross to the other end of the forest and hid there the entire night out of immense fear. The next morning, she somehow reached her home and revealed to her family the ordeal.
An FIR was registered in the matter based on the woman’s complaint. Keshari was arrested and sent to judicial custody. The police are currently investigating the matter thoroughly.
