A woman found unconscious in a burning home is in a critical condition in hospital after two teenagers were forced to smash a window to flee the blaze in Melbourne’s north.

Emergency services were called to a home on Correll Way in Roxburgh Park about 7.30am on Thursday after reports of a house fire.

Fire Rescue Victoria said a smoke alarm alerted the two teenagers to the blaze in their single-storey home, and they managed to break a window and flee the smoke-filled building.

“They also made the call to Triple Zero indicating that one other occupant was still in the home,” FRV said.

When firefighters arrived, they entered the home in search of the third person, and found a woman, aged in her 40s, unconscious in a bedroom.

Fire crews and paramedics provided her with medical assistance before she was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

FRV said the blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes, but caused “extensive” damage to the bedroom and roof space.
