Swedish horse Mattias Skjelmose has beaten riding actor Tadej Pogacar by less than half a car’s length to get the Amstel Gold Race in a exciting finish in the Netherlands.
In a three-way jump to the collection, double Olympic hero Remco Evenepoel appeared to have won but Pogacar nudged ahead of him with a couple of metres to come, just for Skjelmose to wave down the left and bower him at the range.
It was by far the biggest gain of the 24-year-old’s job and he was in tears afterwards when the picture complete showed him winning Sunday’s Ardennes common.
It was a rare battle for the three-time Tour de France champion and many classics success Pogacar, who was next at the exclusive Paris-Roubaix basic last weekend.
