Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma’s resurgence in IPL 2025 only strengthened as the five-time champions clinched a comfortable 8-wicket win, adding to the already mounting woes of Sunrisers Hyderabad. With their fourth consecutive victory, MI continued their trademark mid-season turnaround, while SRH’s campaign plummeted further, raising questions over the sustainability of their aggressive approach.

Once again, SRH’s top order crumbled. The usually fiery opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed cheaply for a duck and 8, respectively. However, it was the bizarre dismissal of Ishan Kishan that had fans stunned. As the rest of SRH’s batting lineup failed to steady the innings, a crucial 99-run stand between Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar offered some resistance and pushed SRH to a below-par total of 143. But against a red-hot Mumbai and a rejuvenated Rohit Sharma, it proved far from enough.

IPL 2025, SRH vs MI: Highlights

How Much Intent Is Too Much Intent?

SRH’s mantra of aggressive intent—championed by skipper Pat Cummins and coach Daniel Vettori—may now be backfiring. Time and again this season, the team’s batters have thrown away starts by attempting unnecessary big hits in situations that demanded patience. When Head fell and Ishan Kishan’s puzzling dismissal followed within five balls, the pressure was on.

In such a scenario, one would expect Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy to consolidate and rebuild. But once again, their aggressive instincts overruled common sense, and the powerplay was wasted. Ironically, SRH’s most measured phase came during the 99-run stand between Klaasen and impact sub Abhinav Manohar, with Klaasen repeatedly urging his partner to avoid rash shots—especially against Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner.

SRH’s continued collapses beg the question: Can they really rely solely on aggression when the campaign is crumbling?

While MI’s climb up the table is impressive, it’s Rohit Sharma’s return to form that’s giving them extra firepower. After a sluggish start to the season, back-to-back fifties against CSK and SRH showcased the “Hitman’s” ability to step up when it matters most.

Rohit’s composed knock against SRH, following Rickleton’s early dismissal, set the tone for MI’s chase. Although Will Jacks fell after a promising start, Suryakumar Yadav’s arrival at the crease allowed Rohit to play with greater freedom. With 8 boundaries and 3 sixes, his innings was a masterclass in timing and situational awareness—something that SRH’s batters sorely lacked at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
