Star India batter Rohit Sharma has begun his preparations for the Indian Premier League 2026 season (IPL 2026), as he was seen practising in front of a packed crowd at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Rohit was also in attendance during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against England national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Apart from cheering for India from the sidelines in his role as the brand ambassador of the tournament, the star batter also found time to practise ahead of the IPL. In a viral video, Rohit can be seen practising his wide array of shots in front of a packed crowd at the venue as he shares the nets with Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

Rohit has been in attendance for every India game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 and is all set to be present for the final on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After completing his duties as brand ambassador, Rohit will be seen straightaway in the IPL, which is scheduled to begin in the last week of March.

Rohit last featured in the ODI series against the New Zealand national cricket team, where he had a poor outing, accumulating just 61 runs in three innings. Prior to that, he scored two half-centuries in the ODI series against South Africa national cricket team and was also adjudged Player of the Series against Australia national cricket team, despite India’s 1–2 series defeat.

He finished as the leading run-scorer of the series with 202 runs from three innings, including a match-winning 121* (125) in the third ODI in Sydney. Conversations around Rohit’s future in ODIs have gathered pace following his modest returns in the recent series against New Zealand.

Will Rohit Sharma play till 2027?

Moreover, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century in the third ODI against South Africa has fuelled debate around making him the permanent opener in the 50-over format. However, Rohit has expressed his desire to carry on until the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 and chase the ultimate prize in the format he grew up idolising.

Having led India to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where they suffered a heartbreaking defeat at home against Australia, the veteran opener appears driven by the desire to have one final shot at glory on the biggest stage.
