Parvez Hossain Emon joins Virat Kohli in elite club with 53-ball century

Parvez Hossain Emon became only the eighth batter to score a T20I hundred in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The southpaw achieved the feat in Bangladesh’s first T20I against the UAE on Saturday, May 17 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The other batters are Virat Kohli, Mohammad Shahzad, Shaiman Anwar, Muhammad Waseem, Jos Buttler, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ross Adair.

Emon also became the second Bangladeshi batter after Tamim Iqbal in 2016 to score a century in Men’s T20Is. The southpaw got to his hundred off 53 balls, helping Bangladesh post 191 for seven after being asked to bat first. He scored 100 off 54 balls with five fours and nine sixes before Muhammad Jawaduallah accounted for his wicket.

‘Tried my best’

On the back of Emon’s knock, Bangladesh went on to take a 1-0 series lead with a 27-run victory. After his match-winning knock, Emon said that he tried to assess the conditions before going for the big shots.

“It’s obviously special for me (century). It’s my maiden International cricket century. So it will be special for me. I am assessing the wicket and trying to stay with my process, stick with my plan, and go for it. I tried my best,” Emon said after the match.

Emon will be looking to carry his momentum when the Tigers face UAE in the second and final T20I on Monday, May 19
