India’s S-400 air defence system successfully intercepted eight Pakistani missiles directed at Satwari, Samba, RS Pura and Arnia on Thursday evening. Loud explosions of bombing, shelling and missile strikes were suspected from Jammu, Kupwara, Baramulla, Pathankot in Punjab, and Jaisalmer and Ganganagar in Rajasthan late in the evening a day after India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan to avenge the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 in which 26 tourists, including a Nepali citizen, were killed.

A full blackout is being witnessed in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Baramulla and Pathankot.

“We were aware of such an attempt, and we were fully prepared to thwart these attempts from the Pakistani side. “Though it’s an evolving situation but we have neutralised all threats coming from Pakistan. So far, eight projectiles, mostly surface-to-surface missiles, have been shot down by our air defence mechanisms,” defence sources said.

The Indian Air Force has activated air defence systems in key cities, while fighter jets from more than five western sector airbases are conducting combat patrols. The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified ground patrolling, and anti-drone systems are also operational.

Places Which Were Being Attacked

Jammu & Kashmir: Shesh Paul Vaid, former Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, wrote on X that a complete blackout is being witnessed in Jammu. “Loud explosions — bombing, shelling, or missile strikes suspected. Fret not — Mata Vishnu Devi is with us, and so are valiant Indian Armed Forces,” he said. Locals reported that they heard siren sounds in multiple places, and officials indicated that missile interception systems had been activated. Reports say Jammu airport appeared to be a target. Large-scale attack of drones along the International Border were also reported. Defence sources said that visuals over Jammu resemble a Hamas-style rocket barrage, with multiple low-cost projectiles fired simultaneously.

Reports of artillery shelling by Pakistan in Kupwara and Udhampur emerged on Thursday. In a prompt response, Indian defence systems countered the targeted strikes and activated air raid sirens, which were heard in Akhnoor and Kishtwar in the Jammu Division. Blackout is being witnessed at Srinagar airport, Shopian and Ramban district. Earlier this evening, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling along the LoC in Kupwara and Baramulla districts. The Boniyar sector in Baramulla and the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara were specifically targeted.

Punjab: Pathankot airbase was targeted late on Thursday evening after reports of shelling emerged from Jammu. A blackout has been enforced in Pathankot, Amritsar and Chandigarh as tensions amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan. There were reports of a loud noise heard in Pathankot which some feared could be shelling from Pakistan but there was no confirmation. District authorities said there was no need to panic.

Rajasthan: Indian air defence systems intercepted multiple Pakistani drones over Jaisalmer, with loud explosions heard and flashes seen in the sky. A complete blackout is being observed in the city, with residents locking themselves inside their homes as a precaution.

In Phalodi, the administration has announced several measures to meet any emergency amid the possibilities of a cross-border strike at a local airbase. All hospitals have been directed to ensure uninterrupted power, and ensure ample provisions of water, and fuel. Shops and hotels have been ordered to shut by 10 pm.

Barmer is also on high alert and has entered a full blackout following the continuous sounding of the third consecutive danger siren. District Collector Tina Dabi has urged people to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions. A red alert has been issued in Sriganganagar.

The entire 1,070-km international border between India and Pakistan in Rajasthan has been sealed until further notice, and the state has been placed on high alert.

All flight operations from Bikaner, Kishangarh (Ajmer) and Jodhpur airports have been suspended until May 10. Jaipur Airport cancelled four flights on Thursday, while Indigo Airlines suspended its Bikaner flights until the same date.
