Teyana Taylor has always been a “big thinker,” but she never anticipated being nominated for an Oscar.
The 35-year-old artist, who is competing for the Best Supporting Actress award at the Academy Awards second month, is surprised by how far she has come in her job and is excited that she will inspire young women watching her, who has already previously won the same award at the Golden Globes this year.
She stated on the Awardist radio for Entertainment Weekly,” You always know which of their dreams will come true. But I’ve often had big dreams.
I dream about everything, including the options, yet the products on my bucket record. Who would have imagined that I would have hosted SNL in the same year that I was like an Oscar nominee if I had really grown up watching it? Like when I was a young lady watching the Oscars, I remember.
” To be in that space where I’m possibly the one that another young lady sitting at home is watching me or saying she loves my dress or talk, like, oh my God, I’m getting shivers talking about that.
You know,” It’s a bit in the best way,” you say? I’m so enthralled by the happiness and love.
In One Battle After Another, Teyana plays Perfidia Beverly Hills, a groundbreaking party leader, and while she doesn’t seem to have little in common with her figure, she became interested in the way she is treated by others.
She said,” What black people go through, that was simple in Perfidia. It was simple to understand how it felt to get ignored. It gave off a sense of comfort like it did in life style. It was simple to understand how it felt to not be heard or seen.
I had only left the movie A Thousand and One, where I played a somewhat complex person who was trying to navigate mother. So I thought I could raise the difficulty a little bit more by playing Perfidia.
Perfidia flees the US for Mexico in the film, but she reads a text to her child that she reads at the end of the film.
And Teyana recalled how she and chairman Paul Thomas Anderson worked together on the word, which was a very heartfelt moment of shooting, especially given that Adam Somner, the producer and second assistant director, passed away in November 2024.
He continued,” We did that in one take because that word that you hear.” It’s mad. And I just now come to mind how mental our first encounter was, with Paul, our good guy, and us.
We are all crying, I tell you. And Adam was already missing at that time.
” It was very, very large for everyone,” he said. And the determination, everything we were going through, the shooting was over, and the letter really hit home. Are you content? Do you enjoy anyone? Just thinking about it gives me shivers.
