At a street celebration in the American city of Vancouver, a vehicle struck a crowd of revellers and left nine people dead and others injured.
At a Filipino society event known as the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party, the alleged vehicle, a 30-year-old Vancouver person, was detained at the scene of the incident. They were certain that the affair did not constitute violence.
At least seven people lay motionless in a road lined with meals trucks, and the victims were captured on camera lying on the ground on a street full of debris.
In the still images taken at the scene, a black SUV with a folded back area can be seen.
Vancouver police confirmed on X that the death toll was nine shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday ( 8 p.m. AEST ). The injuries ‘ quantity is still unknown.
At a press conference at midnight ( Vancouver time ), police said the suspect was known to them but did not provide further details. The gentleman was immediately apprehended by the victims at the scene.

A shop assistant who was working on the street at the time of the incident reported to Canada’s Globe and Mail that the car had screamed and ran for support while some stood frozen in horror as a result.
He simply speeds through a large crowd at full speed. I witnessed a number of people soaring from the car’s effects, Nic Magtajs said.

Before the festival’s crowd was killed, a witness reported to CTV News that he had witnessed a dark vehicle driving wildly in the area.
In an appointment with Postmedia, Yoseb Vardeh, the owner of a food vehicle, said,” I didn’t get to see the vehicle; all I heard was an engine rev.”
Vardeh said,” I went outside my meal vehicle, looked down the road, and there were just systems everywhere.” His voice sounded shaky. He “went straight down the middle” and” through the entire wall”
Mayor of Vancouver, Ken Sim, described the incident as” shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic affair.”
” During this very difficult time, our emotions are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino society.”
Mark Carney, the prime minister of Canada, stated on X:” I am devastated to learn about the horrifying events that occurred at the Lapu Lapu festivity in Vancouver earlier this evening.
On Monday, Canada’s national elections are scheduled to take place. Polls have placed Democratic Carney ahead of Pierre Poilievre, his Liberal challenger.
Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the New Democratic Party, was one of the candidates who turned up for the event, according to CTV News, who arrived minutes before the automobile. The event was merely held twice before that.
According to Singh,” This is so brutal, I don’t actually know what to say.” ” I just happened that, and I just can’t help but think of the eyes of the children that I saw smiling and dancing.”
