Mother Dog Survives Brutal Leopard Attack, Returns To Feed Her Puppies
In an extraordinary display of resilience, a mother dog from Mumbai’s Aarey Colony survived a brutal leopard attack and returned to care for her ten puppies. The dramatic incident was captured on CCTV, showing the leopard sneaking up on the sleeping dog and dragging her away by the neck.
Miraculously, the dog managed to break free and make a remarkable recovery.

A social worker named Yamini Pal shared that despite the severe injury, the dog was later seen on camera returning to her litter to feed them. Fortunately, the puppies were not nearby during the attack and were spared. Local tribal residents have taken the puppies into their homes for care while their mother, now named ‘Shakti, ’ receives treatment.
Shakti suffered severe injuries, including a torn neck and punctured oesophagus, leaving her in critical condition. According to a Times of India report, Taronish Balsara, founder of the NGO World For All, said that Shakti initially tried to eat and drink, but due to the perforation, everything leaked out. Veterinarian Dr. Makarand Chousalkar diagnosed the injury and treated her at Top Dog Pets Clinic in Andheri (west), where she received care for the food pipe injury and infection around the wound.
As per the report, a team of veterinary surgeons, including Dr Barry Kalsy, Dr Akshata Gulvady, and Dr Kaavya Sudhakar, successfully operated on Shakti a few days ago, suturing the damaged section of her food pipe. Dr Chousalkar confirmed that the surgery went well, and the dog is now on the path to recovery.
