After Fremantle forth Patrick Voss made a” cry child” gesture toward Demons goalkeeper Harrison Petty during Saturday night’s fight in Perth, the taunting issue is set to return to the AFL light.
Voss rubbed Petty’s hair three times as the couple engaged in a back-and-forth linguistic as the quarter-time alarm rang out and Fremantle was holding a 42-point result.
Melbourne’s pilot Max Gawn and Voss came in to remonstrate, with the Fremantle moving forward before yelling” cry baby” at Petty.
Similar movements or wagons have been used in Petty over the years.
When Brisbane Lions senior Dayne Zorko sledged him about a sick family member in 2022, Petty was brought to tears.
Zorko eventually offered an apology for that event.
Finally, in 2024, Noah Answerth, a Lions keeper, made a cry-baby teasing Petty.
Voss is the most recent person to criticize Petty, with North Melbourne legend David King calling the spearhead’s activities” a step too much.”
King told Fox Footy,” You can insult them in the way you play, but you can’t embarrass them face-to-face.”
” I don’t believe the AFL will be thrilled with this, and I think it’s a terrible look,” he said. I believe the teasing law will be put into effect.
In the end, it’s an ugly aspect of our activity that we don’t want, but I’m not sure whether there is anything you can say to censure the person.
Justin Longmuir, a coach for Fremantle, was aware of the specifics or context surrounding the incident.
However, he applauded Voss for the common enthusiasm and energy he brings to the table.
We can see where he can run a great range at times, Longmuir said.
He simply brings so much strength to the team that we all buzz of it.
He moves with tremendous strength. He makes an effort to assist his tag team members. He pursues targets for us or opponents who we want to oppose.
In that regard, he does a bit.
When Voss lifted Ed Langdon over his head and marched six steps to take his player over the limit line, Voss had a more humorous time late in the game.
The couple laughed at the event, but it will be Voss ‘ insult on Petty that will occupy the news and stoke discussion about whether the AFL should institute new regulations to address the problem.
Voss won the 17.16 ( 118 ) to 10.10 ( 70 ) game against Melbourne, and he continues to play a key role in Fremantle’s campaign to win their first flag. He kicked 1.22 from 12 disposals.
