The body of a man who disappeared while swimming off the coast of a popular NSW beach has been recovered.
Authorities were called to Kingscliff Beach near Tweed Heads in the state’s far north on Tuesday following reports a man had gone missing in the water about 4pm.
Officers scoured the beach using a helicopter before locating the man, who is believed to be in his 50s.
Police began first aid and paramedics attended the scene, but the man was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified.
“Police have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.
