A 74-year-old man has been charged over an indecent assault at Town Beach Reserve in Broome.
Police say that a 23-year-old woman was sunbathing at the popular beach on Robinson Street about 2.40pm on Wednesday when she was approached by a man not known to her who allegedly indecently assaulted her.
The woman managed to flee to a nearby group of people who helped her and contacted police.
Broome Detectives launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of a 74-year-old Fitzroy Crossing man about 6pm the same day.
He has been charged with unlawful and indecent assault and is due to appear in Broome Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Supt John Hutchison, of the Kimberley District., praised the quick actions of bystanders and police.
“Violence against women is never okay and will not be tolerated,” he said.
Police have urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
