The devastating crime wave that targets and manipulates honest American grandmothers into international drug dealers has been found by a global investigation.
The blatant lies are revealed on 7NEWS Spotlight as reporters Michael Usher, Mylee Hogan, and Denham Hitchcock cover the abhorrent dishonesty of virtual romance scams.
Following her arrest last December and her discovery with 1.5 kg of methamphetamine after leaving Sao Paulo Airport, a Brazilian prosecutor has cleared Veronica Watson, 59, of drug trafficking.
The Queensland mother has always maintained her ignorance and claims that a man posed as a love interest took advantage of her.
” I lacked confidence in him. He claimed to love me, she told Spotlight.
” I believed we were going to get married,” he said.
Donna Nelson, a mother from Perth, was given a six-year prison sentence in December for bringing 2 kg of heroin into Japan’s Narita Airport in 2023.
The 59-year-old claimed to have received the suitcase from a guy she met on social media in 2020 and that she had taken it from Laos to Tokyo on his own accord.
The judges argued that Nelson should have been more cautious than she should have been about taking his backpack because he had been a victim of an online relationship fraud.
Nelson’s attorney, Rie Nishida, described the verdict as being “very ridiculous.”
She stated to reporters outside judge last time,” We need to communicate with Donna but we will fight until the end, until she gets free.”
She’s devastated, but she’s a powerful woman, but we’ll talk and get ready for the next battle.
Since then, Nelson’s community has confirmed that they will file an appeal.
These online relationships were true, and both of them involved messages and videos calls, according to Hitchcock.
” This is a brand-new scam that is treacherous, evil, and cruel,” the author writes.
