Crows CEO Tim Silvers issues a statement

By Kyle Pollard

It’s fair to say Adelaide boss Tim Silvers isn’t happy about the Izak Rankine controversy.

He has provided ABC Sport with this statement.

“We once again find ourselves faced with an AFL acknowledgment of an umpiring error but unfortunately and in reality, it is of no use or benefit to our club, or our players, coaches, staff, members and supporters,” he said.

“It’s increasingly frustrating. With a five-day break between games, we must switch our focus to putting in a strong performance against Geelong in Thursday’s opening of Gather Round.”

A reminder that the Crows have been on the end of some controversial call in the past few years, not least the Sam Draper laying on the ball non-decision and the Ben Keays goal that wasn’t.

HT: GWS Giants 11.7 (73) lead West Coast 3.4 (22)

By Kyle Pollard

Jesse Hogan has four goals to halftime. (Getty Images)

Jesse Hogan kicks his fourth after the halftime siren and the lead is back out to 51 points, with the Giants winning the quarter by 22 points.

It looked like it was going to get really ugly early in the second, when the Giants put on four goals in four and half minutes, but the Eagles steadied after that point, kicking 2.3 to GWS’s 2.0 to stem the bleeding.

Lachie Whitfield and Tom Green have the most touches on the field with 17 each, while Ryan Maric has won the ball the most for the Eagles with 11 disposals.

Cripps snaps a ripper on the edge of halftime

By Kyle Pollard

Great transition footy from the Eagles in the lead up to that play.

Sandy Brock, Archer Reid and Tyrell Dewar are all involved and it’s the veteran Cripps that gets on the end of the play in the pocket.

He dribbles it through along the ground and that shows what the Eagles are capable of.

The 15m kick rule

By Kyle Pollard

For goodness sake, stop this useless policing of the 15m! If it’s around 15 pay it , if it’s 8 or 10 don’t pay it. It’s a 15m rule not a 20m rule – this over-officiating has been completely pointless.

– Alan

Fair call here from Alan I reckon, it’s tough to get the 15m call bang on.

It’s all guess work in the end, until we start getting microchips in the ball that can say yay or nay in real time.

Toby Bedford breaks a stalemate

By Kyle Pollard

Having muffed a fairly easy set shot in the first quarter, Bedford this time takes a grab right on the boundary about 30m out, runs around and hits it perfectly.

After 14 minutes without a goal, the Giants get one on the board to get the lead back out over 50 points.

Greene takes out Owies in a nasty collision

By Kyle Pollard

The former Carlton small forward is very slow to get up after that one.

He got on the end of the F50 pass as Toby Greene came in from the side of the flight of the ball.

There are initial calls of tunneling and it will be looked at by the MRO. I think Greene was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but it’s hard to predict how these sort of things will be judged.

It’s a watch and wait, but if I was making the call I’d say it’s a fine at worst.

Play on, not fifteen … discuss

By Kyle Pollard

How do we all feel about the strong calls on the play on, not 15m rule at the moment?

Tyler Brockman took a mark from a kick that looked like it went at least 20m, but the umpire had called not 15m half a second after it had left the boot.

It feels like we’re seeing that a lot at the moment, calls made before the kick has even left the boot?

How do we feel about it footy fans?

Drop a comment in above.

Cripps gets one for the Eagles

By Kyle Pollard

On the day he passes Ben Cousins for games played at West Coast, Jamie Cripps gets a free kick for an errant high arm and converts truly.

That was better footy from the Eagles, it was the most dangerous they’ve looked since early in the first quarter.

Records could be about to tumble

By Kyle Pollard

The Giants currently lead by 52 points with 15 minutes left.

Their biggest win over the Eagles is 67 points in the 2017 semi final.

In that game Stevie Johnson kicked six for the Giants with Stephen Coniglio starring with 35 disposals.

Tom Green gets in on the action

By Kyle Pollard

Oh dear.

It’s straight out of the guts again. Callaghan to Green to Briggs to Bedford to Green and Green hooks it through on the right.

We’re out to 53 points.

Greene has his second and it’s getting ugly

By Kyle Pollard

It’s straight out of the middle and the Brent Daniels kick inside 50 is perfect to the running skipper.

He has his second … and let’s not even bother doing another post because now Jake Riccardi has one as well.

Straight out of the guts again via some lovely ruckwork and the Eagles can’t get their hands on the ball.

Giants lead by 47 with 16:45 still on the clock in the second term.

Hogan has his third to start the second

By Kyle Pollard

The big fella with the twinkle toes clunks a big mark against the debutant Sandy Brock and he boots his third of the game.

That’s a really tough ask for the kid, because the ball is moving in clean and fast.

Great start by the Giants.

QT: GWS Giants (36) lead West Coast 1.1 (7)

By Kyle Pollard

This very much looks like a game between a team pushing for a flag and a team rebuilding from scratch.

The Giants have been fluid and clean with the ball, while the Eagles are making really basic foot skill errors in the worst part of the field.

They’ve given away 19 turnovers and are disposing at just 65%, and those poor kicks have been happening as much in their D50 as they have anywhere else on the field.

Toby Greene and Tom Green lead the disposals for the game with nine each, while Darcy Jones and Jesse Hogan both have two majors to their name.

Three Eagles are yet to touch the ball while another three have had just the one disposal.

Hogan gets a push and goals

By Kyle Pollard

Tom Cole grabs Jesse Hogan’s arm and impedes his run at the ball, and the big Giant gets the free kick near the top of the square.

It’s a goal, and it feels like the Eagles are out of their depth here.

Greene gets on the end of another horror turnover

By Kyle Pollard

The defensive kicking from the Eagles has been less than good and Tyrell Dewar just took year’s off the coach’s life with this kick.

He goes across the D50 and just misses everything, landing directly in Toby Greene’s hands.

Greene waltzes in, baulks one, and kicks the goal.

Disposal efficiency is just 66% for the Eagles right now.

Eagles are on the board via Archer Reid

By Kyle Pollard

It’s a really strong contested mark from the youngster after a chaos high ball from Oscar Allen.

He wrestles the more mature Jack Buckley and does more than hold his own, clunking the chest mark just outside the goalsquare.

He coverts and it’s back to 16 points.

Hogan stretches the lead for GWS

By Kyle Pollard

It’s just a high hoof into the F50 for Jesse Hogan and the big fella clunks it easily.

The set shot is arrow straight and the Eagles have no answers here.

Jones goes back-to-back

By Kyle Pollard

Toby Greene is involved again with a ripper of a kick to Darcy Jones off the outside of the boot.

Jones converts truly and they look smooth right now.

Their intercept marking across D50 has been elite early.

Early touch for Sandy Brock

By Kyle Pollard

It’s an AFL debut today for Sandy Brock after spending three years on the Gold Coast rookie list without playing a game.

And there’s some sporting blood running through those veins, with uncle Peter an absolute Australian motorsport legend.

Brock took a nice defensive mark early to get those nerves out of the system.
