The longstanding federal director of the Liberal Party has announced he is stepping down from the role at the “right time”, after nine years in the top job.
Andrew Hirst said it was time to hand over to new organisational leadership and allow for a seamless transition before the next federal election.
He was first appointed federal director of the party in 2017 and led the campaign behind Scott Morrison’s surprise 2019 victory at the polls.
In a statement, Mr Hirst said despite setbacks that should not be minimised a lot had been achieved over the last nine years.
“Our Party faces significant challenges that must be confronted with renewed energy and determination,” he said.
More to come.
