Jammu and Kashmir Pahalgam Terror Attack: Four days after the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, security forces are still conducting anti-terror operations across the Valley. The houses of three active terrorists were demolished in Kashmir overnight.
On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a key meeting to discuss the future course of action regarding the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which has been suspended. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Paatil, and senior officials from various ministries attended the meeting in New Delhi.
India’s decision to suspend the decades-old treaty comes after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi led a candle march in New Delhi to pay homage to the victims.
As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, particularly after firing incidents from the Line of Control (LoC), Paatil asserted that India will ensure that not even a drop of water from the Indus river goes to Pakistan. According to government sources, Union ministers deliberated on several suggestions – including desilting of dams, diversion of river waters and construction of new dams.
