Actor Sunny Deol’s ‘Jaat’ has been receiving love from all quarters. Although the film saw a dip in collections during its second weekend, it still pulled in a respectable Rs 12.9 crore, with Sunday alone contributing a strong Rs 5.65 crore, making it the film’s second-best day since its extended opening weekend.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, the film also stars Randeep Hooda as the antagonist. Despite all the negative heat surrounding the film, ‘Jaat’ managed to pull off the first week with distinction. As per early estimates, the film earned Rs 5.15 crore on Day 11.

This brings the total tally to Rs 74.55 crore.
This strong performance came despite the film being embroiled in controversy the same weekend, after facing backlash for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The makers responded by removing a church scene that had upset the Christian community.
Adding to the challenge, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ also hit theatres on Friday, opening at Rs 7.5 crore and gaining momentum through positive word of mouth, giving ‘Jaat’ tough competition at the box office.
‘Jaat’ is just Rs 1 crore away from surpassing the lifetime collection of Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar’, which had earned Rs 76.65 crore upon its release in 2000, becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of its era.
The film also stars Randeep Hooda and Viineet Kumar Siingh in important roles. It is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory.
