IPL 2025: Chameera joins best catch contender with diving stunner in Delhi

Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera took a breathtaking catch on the deep square leg boundary to dismiss Kolkata Knight Riders’ Anukul Roy on Tueday, 29th April at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The Sri Lankan speedster put in a full stretched dive to grab hold of the ball, which was travelling for a certain boundary after Roy flicked Mitchell Starc’s full length delivery.

However, much to Roy’s dismay, Chameera, who was stationed at deep square leg, came running to his left and pulled of a mind boggling catch. As a result, the KKR tailender had to return to the pavilion for a golden duck, giving Starc his third dismissal of the game.

Chameera joined his fellow countryman Kamindu Mendis in the list of sensational catches of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Earlier, Mendis took a stunner to dismiss Dewald Brevis in Match 43 of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Chameera was expensive during his spell against KKR as he ended up leaking 46 runs in three overs. The speedster dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 44 (32) in the 17th over which helped Delhi to stop the run flow in the death overs. Raghuvanshi added 61 runs for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh off 46 balls to help KKR stabilise their innings after they were reduced to 113/4 in 9.2 overs following Venkatesh Iyer’s dismissal.

Some late flourish from Andre Russell (17 off 9) helped his team get to 204/9 in their 20 overs. Mitchell Starc finished as the pick of the bowlers for DC, registering figures of 3/43 in four overs while Axar Patel (2/27) and Vipraj Nigam (2/41) also chipped in with two wickets each.
