As Apple prepares for its next big iPhone reveal this fall, early chatter around the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max suggests that the focus may not just be on performance upgrades. Instead, three key design tweaks are reportedly in the works and together, they could change how the Pro models look and feel in hand. From a refined rear panel to a smaller Dynamic Island and fresh colour experiments, Apple appears to be fine-tuning what worked this year while quietly correcting what did not.

One of the most talked-about changes is on the back. While the iPhone 17 Pro’s bold colours have been widely appreciated, especially the Cosmic Orange shade, the two-tone rear design divided opinion. The contrast between the glass and aluminium frame did not sit well with everyone. Now, that may be about to change.
According to Weibo tipster Instant Digital, “The iPhone 18 Pro series features a redesigned back glass that minimizes colour difference between the glass and the aluminum back panel. A seamless, unified look.” In simple terms, Apple could move away from the noticeable colour contrast and offer a more blended finish. If accurate, this would mean a cleaner and more premium appearance, something many Pro buyers tend to prefer.
The second major design update is expected on the front. For weeks, there has been confusion about whether Apple would drop the Dynamic Island in favour of a hole-punch cutout. Some earlier reports hinted at that possibility. However, recent leaks now suggest otherwise.
Instead of switching to a hole-punch camera, Apple is reportedly shrinking the Dynamic Island. The new version is said to be around 35 per cent smaller on both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This reduction is believed to be possible because some Face ID components are being placed under the display. Not all components will move beneath the screen, which explains why the company is not adopting a full hole-punch design yet. Screen sizes, however, are expected to remain unchanged compared to the current Pro models.
The third design highlight could once again revolve around colours. Apple surprised many buyers this year by offering brighter, more playful shades for its Pro lineup. The strong response to Cosmic Orange seems to have encouraged the company to continue in that direction.
Instant Digital claims Apple has tested three new shades: Coffee Brown, Purple, and Burgundy. However, not all of these colours may make the final cut. It is possible that Apple will choose one or two after internal testing. There is also curiosity about whether the company will attempt another orange-inspired variant to build on the current model’s popularity. Interestingly, the tipster has expressed doubt about the return of a black variant next year, stating, “Looks like there won’t be a black one next year.” If that turns out to be true, it would mark a notable departure from Apple’s usual safe colour choices.
Beyond design, there is also talk about pricing. Despite rising memory costs, largely due to supply being diverted to AI data centres, a research note from GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro models may launch at the same price as their predecessors. Pu believes Apple is working closely with suppliers such as Samsung and SK Hynix to negotiate better memory chip deals. The company is also said to be reducing costs in other areas, including display and camera components, to balance out potential increases in RAM expenses.
If all these reports hold true, the iPhone 18 Pro may not look dramatically different at first glance. But a more unified back panel, a noticeably smaller Dynamic Island, and a fresh approach to colours could make it feel refined in subtle yet meaningful ways. As the fall launch approaches, the picture is becoming clearer and Apple fans will be watching closely to see how many of these design upgrades make it to the final product.
