A haulage firm is facing health and safety charges after one of its workers was crushed between a truck and a trailer at a South Australian factory.
Safe Work SA has laid charges against Tasmania-based Rock Logistics over an incident involving one of its workers in Adelaide two years ago.
On February 10, 2024, two men were rushed to hospital following an industrial incident at the Fielders steel factory in Novar Gardens.
The two men become trapped between a truck and a trailer on the site, with one of the workers suffering injuries so severe he was hospitalised for a month.
A statement issued by the regulator described the man as having been “pinned and crushed between a truck and trailer”.
“Safe Work SA have alleged that Rock Logistics failed in its duty to provide and maintain a safe system of work for its workers,” the statement adds.
“A manager at the company is alleged to have supervised and used a dangerous work method, which led to the worker being injured.
“The two defendants have been charged with a category 2 offence under Section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.”
A spokesman for Rock Logsitics said: “Rock Logistics takes workplace health and safety obligations very seriously and co-operated with SafeWork SA in its investigation of the incident.
“The company respects the court process and as the matter is now the subject of a prosecution, it would not be appropriate for it to comment further at this time.”
