For the season’s World Cup, FIFA is committed to putting in place measures that could stop the Vinicius Junior prejudice incident from happening again.
After FIFA brought the topic up for discussion at Saturday’s International Football Association Board ( IFAB) meeting, players who cover their mouths could face punishment at this summer’s finals.
Gianluca Prestianni of Benfica is accused of racistly abusing Real Madrid celebrity Vinicius during a Champions League game, which he vehemently denies.
UEFA is looking into the incident, but Prestianni’s decision to come to a conclusion will be even more difficult given that he was wearing a shirt to cover his mouth with his lips when he made an apparent comment to the Portuguese.
Whatever is said when the tongue is covered could then result in a person being disciplined on the industry.
Mattias Grafstrom, the head of FIFA, stated on Saturday:” These are significant matters that we want to target.
We want to keep the conversation going and possibly come up with methods even before the World Cup.
He claimed that the FIFA Congress in Vancouver in April would be a great place for” combined efforts that are balanced” discussions.
He continued,” Fox is a concern for FIFA as an organization to fight against prejudice.”
There are very few situations where a person may be speaking to an opposition from the other team, according to England’s Football Association CEO Mark Bullingham, a chairman of the IFAB.
” But we need to look at all and make sure we won’t have to make more issues if we change the rules or apply penalties for doing that,” he said.
